Located in Tavira, Quinta de Cima is one of the best championship golf courses in Portugal. Rocky Roquemore, a golf architect designed the 6586-metre long golf course that is characterized by a well-defined course layout including undulating greens. Vast lakes and bunkers secure the golf course. Quinta de Cima golf course is neighbored by other golf courses such as Benamor, Quinta da Ria, Quinta do Vale, Castro Marim, and Monta Rei.
Course layout
The 36-hole golf course is near Rio Formosa Natural Reserve, it is not surrounded by housing projects that may hamper the game of golf. Open and undulating fairways are an important feature of the golf course that are bounded by almond trees, strategic bunkers as well as water hazards.
Tackling the challenges
This golf course presents several challenges for the players. Hazards are characterized by smart placement of bunkers or streams, ditches and lakes especially in the middle of the golf course. In the first two holes, you must focus on club selection as well as drive accuracy.
A stream running along 4th, 5th, and 6th holes poses a great challenge because it bisects the 4th hole from its putting surface. Par-5 at the 16th hole offers another challenge because the stream flows along the fairway diagonally at a distance of 180 yards away from the course and ends at a pond that is located at the right side of the putting region.
Spectacular view
A driving range in Quinta de Cima has been built with flexible dimensions and it faces the direction of south to north. Therefore, when you hit from the northern side of the driving range, you will get a spectacular view of the Atlantic Ocean and the Algarve mountains. The golf course also features another range, in which you can practice using club irons.
